Brief Introduction

Conch

As the capital of Hainan Province, Haikou enjoys a tropical maritime monsoon climate. Hainan dishes have a history of more than 2,100 years. Based on its unique geological position and resources, Haikou has combined the food customs of central China, Guangdong, Southeast Asia, and the Li and Miao ethnic minorities living in Hainan. Food in Haikou features dishes, snacks, pastry and drinks. The most famous dishes here are Wenchang Chicken, Jiaji Duck, Dongshan Lamb and Hele Crab. The local food is very colorful and almost every city and county in Hainan has its own special dishes or snacks.
Restaurants with distinct Hainan features line the streets of Haikou. On Jinlong Road, more than 40 restaurants offering dishes representing all parts of the country gather at the Chinese Gourmet Street. There you can taste more than 20 types of dishes and snacks from Guangdong, Sichuan, Hunan, Beijing, Shandong, and northeast, northwest and southwest China.
